Bob Wheeler

Obituary

Robert Stanley Wheeler, beloved grandpa, dad, brother, and friend, passed away at the age of 72. Born on August 29, 1952, in Lackawanna, New York, Bob spent his early years in Hamburg, New York, before moving to Erie, Pennsylvania at the age of 11. He graduated from Strong Vincent High School in 1970 and went on to attend Penn State University.

In the late 1970s, Bob completed the Respiratory Care Course at Hamot Medical Center. In 1979, he made the life-changing decision to move to San Diego, California, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree while working as a Registered Respiratory Therapist at UCSD in Hillcrest. His dedication and expertise in his field earned him respect and admiration from colleagues and patients alike.

Bob was a man of many passions. A talented musician, he was the guitarist and lead singer of the band Jordan during his time in Erie, showcasing his love for live performance. Bob was also a great swimmer, being a lifeguard as a young man, an active member of his high school swim team, and a certified scuba diver.

He is survived by his daughter, Marjorie Taylor, and his granddaughter, Lily Taylor, as well as his sisters: Carol Herring, Katherine Wheeler, and Teresa Myers. Each of them will remember him for his great sense of humor and unwavering support. He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Stanley and Ann Wheeler, and his sister, Elizabeth Davis, as well as his grandparents, Richard & Lucille Cullen and Edgar & Teresa Wheeler.

Bob's legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched and the love he shared with family and friends. He will be deeply missed, but forever cherished in our hearts. Rest in peace, Bob. Your music and spirit will always remain with us.

A few notes from Ashes on the Sea…

  • Motion Sickness: Heightened emotions and a boat at sea are not always a good combination. Even if you do not get seasick under normal conditions, you may consider taking an over-the-counter motion sickness tablet at least one hour before departure.

  • Clothing & Footwear: You must wear soft-soled or deck shoes. High heels are not comfortable on a boat, they are also unsafe. Please dress in layers and bring a jacket.

  • Sun Protection: Bring sunscreen, hat or cap, and sunglasses to protect you from the sun.

  • Flowers: We will be bringing rose petals, however, the more flowers the better – remember that no plastic, including rubber bands or ties, may go into the ocean. Loose-cut flowers are recommended.

  • Transportation: Travel in a car group or car groups if possible - This will help everyone to arrive at the same time.
